Industrial Distribution Center Selects Columbia Missouri DAS Integrators to Design & Install an In-Building Emergency Radio Coverage System (ERRCS)

The Builder of a new 600,000 square foot industrial distribution center discovered the facility needed an Emergency Responder Radio Coverage System (ERRCS) in order to comply with local DAS fire code. The Electrical Contractor onsite was not familiar with the county's regulatory requirements so the Builder called the expert DAS integrators at VeriDAS Technologies to learn more about in-building Public Safety Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS).

CHALLENGE

Midway through construction, the Builder of a new 600,000 square foot industrial distribution center in Columbia, Missouri discovered the facility needed an Emergency Responder Radio Coverage System (ERRCS) in order to comply with local fire safety & building code. The Electrical Contractor onsite was not familiar with the county’s regulatory requirements so the Builder called the expert DAS integrators at VeriDAS Technologies to learn more about in-building Public Safety Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS).

After receiving the Builder’s call, the DAS experts at VeriDAS researched the local DAS fire codes and then contacted the AHJ (Authority Holding Jurisdiction) to discuss the situation. It quickly became clear that the challenge was much larger than a threatened construction timeline. The new facility is located in a county that is upgrading its emergency radio network from VHF to 700/800 spectrum.

SOLUTION

Since the county is currently operating an emergency responder radio system on VHF, but is preparing to upgrade to 700/800 MhZ in the near future, the experienced DAS integrators at VeriDAS engineered an in-building Public Safety DAS (Distributed Antenna System) that supports VHF and can be expanded to include 700/800 bands easily, quickly and cost-effectively when required.

RESULTS

The solution VeriDAS engineered for the new industrial distribution center in Columbia, Missouri allowed the Builder to meet all of the construction project’s objectives. The in-building DAS installation was inspected and approved by the County. Fortunately, this unexpected step in the construction timeline did not delay the launch.  Additionally, VeriDAS custom designed a compliant DAS that can be easily upgraded in the future from VHF to 700/800 band. This enabled the Builder to keep construction costs under control without overbuilding or investing in the DAS.
